How To Date When You live At Home

dating while living at home. You still live with your parents or you recently had to move back. You’re not alone. A recent statistic showed that one in three young adults is still living at home. Sadly, the numbers are growing for the 25-35 crowd, as well. With all these people living at home, dating suddenly becomes that much more difficult. Most people want to date someone who is independent and who has their stuff together. Yet the economy has taken a turn. What happens when life’s circumstances have you living at home? How do you tackle dating when you’re still living with mom and dad? Easy. Read the following and you’ll find that dating while still living at home is no different than dating with your own place. You just need more finesse, that’s all.

Be Mysterious

There is no rule that states that you need to divulge your living situation to every person you show interest in. If you’re talking to a potential match on an online dating site and they ask you where you live, you don’t have to be completely honest. Don’t lie. Don’t tell them you live in a mansion or even your own apartment, but you can say that you have a delicate living situation and that you’d rather not talk about it. This way, you can get to know the other person a little better before you drop the ‘living at home’ bomb.

When Pressed

If the person absolutely won’t let it go, then you’ll have to tell them you’re living at home. This is fine. If you’re going to get involved with someone, they’re going to find out eventually. For best results, however, you’ll want to delay the news so that an emotional attachment forms. The person will be less likely to reject you because you share a house with your parents than if you tell them right away.

The Third Or Fourth Date

If you wait until the third or fourth date, you should be able to tell the person that you live at home with little repercussions. You should let the person know that you have plans to move out sometime in the future. Everyone should understand a lost job or decreased wages in a downed economy, but you should always have plans for the future. Most people want to date someone with ambition, someone who wants to go places. If you exhibit too much comfort about the fact that you still live at home, it could potentially turn the other person off.

Conclusion

The lesson here is to wait a little while to tell the other person that you’re still living at home. Dating while living with the parents might be a little more difficult than dating when living alone, but it can be done. Let the news come later in the relationship and always choose the other person’s place when you go out to keep the mystery going. If you can exhibit that you have plans for better things, you should be able to break the news that you live at home without the person thinking negatively of you.

I really enjoyed this article! I like living at home, because I am close with my family….and where I’m from everyone for the most part lives at home until they get married. It’s rare for people to move out on their own. I found that speaking honestly and not being ashamed of it helps too. I’ve shown that I love my family and enjoy them and because my family is really fun, my boyfriend enjoys being around them too.
